Description of Course

This 2-session course introduces a professional methodology for AI-assisted subtitling using Avellan, a platform purpose-built for the audiovisual translation industry.

Each session focuses on a distinct stage of the subtitling workflow:
• Session 1 covers transcription: how to prepare your material, configure AI tools with intention, and review ASR output with a critical, editorial eye.
• Session 2 covers translation: how to use source quality as an editorial foundation, configure translation parameters using the CCSL, and apply post-editing as a professional skill rather than a correction task.

Both sessions use a real film excerpt as working material, so participants move through a complete, realistic workflow from upload to translated output.

About the Coach
Ligia Sobral Fragano has over 20 years of experience in audiovisual translation, subtitling, and post-production. She is the CEO and co-founder of Little Brown Mouse, one of Brazil's leading audiovisual translation companies, and the creator of Avellan, an AI subtitling platform built on proprietary segmentation and line-breaking technology. Ligia brings to these sessions not just practical expertise, but the methodological thinking that shaped the platform itself.

No prior experience with Avellan is required. Basic familiarity with subtitle file formats (SRT, VTT) and subtitling principles is recommended.

IT resources:
  • Avellan Account: Create a free account at avellan.io before the first session. Participants will receive session credits for the exercises. Instructions provided upon enrollment  
  • Subtitling Software: Have a subtitle editing tool installed. Used for post-editing exercises during Session 1 and 2
  • A computer with speakers as well as a stable internet connection are necessary.
