Everything in this course is done through a chat window. You will not write a single line of code or open a terminal. If you can type a message, you can complete every exercise. By the end of the session you will have a working AI assistant configured to your workflow; not a demo, not a prototype, something you will actually use the next day.

Meet Your AI Assistant (1.5 hours)

1. Intro
What is OpenClaw, how AI models work, what this tool can and cannot do, and how it differs from ChatGPT. 

1.1 Exercise 1: Email Templates
A pure chat exercise with no files. Participants ask the assistant to write a quote delivery email for a 5,000-word legal translation project, then customize the tone and wording live. 

1.2 Exercise 2: Knowledge Base / Second Brain
Participants paste their own style guides, glossary excerpts, or client instructions into the assistant's memory. They then ask questions live: "What does our style guide say about numbers in French?" or "What is the preferred term for X with Client Y?" Demonstrates persistent, searchable context that survives between sessions. Useful for translators, PMs, and ops directors alike.

1.3 Exercise 3: Recurring News Briefing
Participants set up a recurring task: every Monday morning, OpenClaw fetches the latest news from localization, AI in translation, and the language services market, and delivers a short digest. Introduces the concept of scheduled automation without requiring any file handling.

Brief review of Session 1 outputs.

2.1 Exercise 4: Translation Quality Checklist
Participants upload a translation (or paste a segment) and define a quality checklist: do numbers match the source? are tags intact? do terms follow the glossary? are units of measurement converted correctly? The assistant outputs a structured QA report they can forward to a client or keep for internal records. 

2.2 Exercise 5: DOCX Translation with Formatting
Participants drop a formatted Word file into the chat and instruct the assistant: "Translate from English to German, preserve all styles, tables, headers, and footnotes." They receive a properly formatted translated file back. 

2.3 Exercise 6: PDF to Translated PDF
The most technically complex exercise, saved for last. A scanned or formatted PDF comes in; the assistant extracts the text, translates it, and returns the output in the same layout. Demonstrates end-to-end file handling that previously required dedicated tools or manual reformatting.

2.4 Show & Tell + Q&A
Participants share their translated DOCX or QA report. Final questions, wrap-up.

Course Description

This course teaches language professionals how to configure and use OpenClaw, an AI agent platform, as a personal productivity assistant, without writing a single line of code. Across two live sessions of 1.5 hours each, participants work through six hands-on exercises that cover the most common pain points in translation and localization workflows: file-based tasks (translating formatted Word documents and scanned PDFs), terminology QA, admin automation (email templates, project briefs), and recurring task setup. Every exercise produces an immediate, usable output.

No programming background is required. No prior experience with AI agents is needed. If you have used ChatGPT or a similar tool at least once, you have all the technical background this course requires.

Resources

Before starting the course, participants must have the following ready:
  • A computer running macOS or Windows (Linux supported but not officially tested)
  • Python 3.10 or later installed via the Workshop Setup Guide
  • OpenClaw installed installed via the Workshop Setup Guide
  • An OpenRouter account with API credits (participants will need a key with $5 credits)
  • A browser (Chrome) with access to http://localhost:18790
  • A sample DOCX file to use in Exercise 5 (participants can use their own; a sample file will be provided)
  • A sample PDF file to use in Exercise 6 (participants can use their own; a sample file will be provided)
  • A sample glossary (participants can use their own; a starter glossary will be provided for Exercise 2 and Exercise 4)


All sample files will be distributed via the Telegram support chat before Session 1.
