EXPERT COURSE
Knowledge of digital
technology and
artificial intelligence (AI) applications for communication and cross-linguistic transfer enables interpreters, language professionals, and interpreting service providers to
understand current innovations in the field and recognize when and how to
integrate them consciously to deliver even higher
quality services.
With the growing demand for digital skills and pressures towards AI adoption in interpreting and multilingual communication processes, the expertise derived from this course allows participants to manage requests with awareness, adapt to changes when necessary, and position successfully in today’s and tomorrow’s professional market.
The
‘Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence for Interpreters’ expert
course provides participants with a
comprehensive theoretical and practical overview of IT resources as applied to
interpreting services.
During the six-hour training, participants have the opportunity to discover how interpreting and technology have always interacted with each other to some extent, explore fundamental notions of natural language processing (NLP) and computational linguistics and how these apply to the current language services landscape, and understand key concepts in AI and large language models (LLMs) with their countless implementations.
The course provides in-depth coverage of technological resources facilitating distance interpreting (platforms and methods for remote interpretation, as well as features and challenges), those designed to assist interpreters during the various stages of their work (from preparation for an assignment through terminology extraction and glossary management, to real-time support with automatic transcription), and those proposed as alternatives to human interpreters (i.e., machine interpreting or automated speech translation), highlighting opportunities, but also and risks and criticalities.
Demonstrations of all these applications are conducted along with hands-on exercises using various programs, tools, and resources available on the market.
Finally, further innovative and emerging applications of technologies and AI in interpreting services are outlined, as well as the skills required of today’s professionals, opportunities for career expansion, and future prospects for the industry.
Participants interested in navigating ongoing transitions and addressing current changes with clarity and focus, without being overwhelmed, will acquire comprehensive knowledge of the factors and requirements for success in the new era of innovation for interpreting.
