Course description

With entertaining content, you put theoretical knowledge into practice throughout the course which also prepares you in organizing and planning deadlines.

Who is this course for?

The course is relevant for professionals concerned with media, e.g.: translators or interpreters, individuals seeking professional audio-visual media content professionals, media translators or interpreters, and media training.

In addition, this course is also relevant for anyone who would like to make a career out of subtitling and/or closed captioning, e.g.: bilingual speakers, second language teachers, recent graduates, freelancers working from home, or individuals seeking to enter the TV and Film industry.

Course delivery

The course is divided into 14 modules, each with a new topic and an assigment to put your theoretical knowledge into practise.

After each assignment, specific feedback regarding errors and improvements are given.
After the course, you will have two exams:

1) Open subtitling or template creation
2) Closed captioning or SDH


Linguistic skills:
  • A good English level is required.

IT resources:
  • A computer as well as a stable internet connection are necessary.
  • The course contains audio. Make sure you have a loudspeaker or headset. 
  • You will learn to use the Ooona Toolkit (don't worry, we will provide you with everything you need).

  • You can take this course whenever you want and in your own rhythm, however ideally you would like to complete the course in one to two months.

Kelly O'Donovan

Kelly has more than 12 years of experience in the audio-visual industry.
Previously a teacher and most notably the creator and Operations Manager of an International subtitling agency. 
From her years of experience working with producers, agencies, video-on-demand platforms, distributors, agencies, aggregators and encoding houses, she has learned a mountain of information about subtitling and closed captioning.
She has coupled 
this involvement with her other skill set, teaching.
