Who is this mentoring program for?

This MTMM Art of Subtitling and Closed Captioning is addressed to anyone interested in audiovisual translation and captioning, and who specifically wants to know more about how to:

  • Create open subtitles and timed templates;
  • Create closed captions and SDH (subtitles for the deaf or hard of hearing);
  • Conform CC, SDH and SLS files;
  • Burn/encode subtitles and captions;
  • Adhere to standard specifications;
  • Approach, gain and maintain clients;
  • Manage and control a leading subtitling software;

 

Mentoring program delivery

The mentoring program is divided into 3 main parts covering the most important aspects of subtitling and closed captioning:
  • subtitling, SDH and closed captioning
  • hard encoding subtitles 
  • preparing CV for work placements


Students will have the opportunity to learn on their own, carry out tasks independently, and attend live 1:1 personalized sessions with Kelly.

Skills will be acquired with an learning by doing approach based on real life examples taken from projects in which Kelly has worked or managed.

The sessions will be recorded and you will be granted life access to the recordings and contents.

Resources

Linguistic skills:
  • A good level of English is required (you choose the second language in which you would like to practice the subtitling tasks in).

IT resources:
  • A computer with speakers and a microphone as well as a stable internet connection are necessary.
  • A Zoom account.

Availability:

Meet

Kelly O'Donovan

Kelly has more than 15 years of experience working in the audio-visual industry.

Previously a language teacher and Operations Manager of an international subtitling agency, but most notably the creator of GOSUB, online audio-visual courses.

Kelly currently works as an online teacher and mentor to businesses and students around the world.
